Family Photos Perth – Pete & Mel

Some time back we had the pleasure of meeting Pete and Mel and their daughter Sofia, and of course take some family photos for them. We met down at a park that would allow them to hang out and explore as a family. This affords us plenty of opportunities to document what happens and set up a few shots along the way. For anyone looking for a nice spot to relax with their family, I couldn’t recommend Claisebrook Cove more highly. It’s located in East Perth, right on the river. There is plenty of open space, a playground, cycle/scooter paths and even some spots for catching a few fish.

We had arrived at the first spot when Sofia decided, much to the shock of her parents, that she would stand (unassisted) for the first time. What a magic moment, and to have that captured on camera…priceless. Sofia loved exploring the various elements in the park. She was also perfectly content to stop for a few group shots along the way. Pete and Mel had been a little nervous about being in front of the camera, like most of us. They definitely didn’t want anything to ‘posey’ or ‘formal’, and loved the relaxed / lifestyle approach to the session. We barely had to remind them to ignore the camera. They were happy to just interact among themselves and explore the park.

For the photographers in the audience: this session was shot on a Canon 5D Mark III, with natural light assisted occasionally by a 3’x4′ Sunbounce reflector held by our assistant (thanks Daniel).

Pete and Mel, thank you so much for the opportunity to get to know you, and to take some family photos for you. We can’t wait to do it again as Sofia grows up. (Quick update on this, Sofia is soon to be a big sister. We’re looking forward to taking some more photos of the family when the new baby arrives in a few months. We love photographing families again and again as they grow).
