Acting Headshots Perth – Tessa
Some time back, actually it was nearly two years ago, Tessa contacted us to get some acting headshots done. For one reason or another we never got to take those shots for her. We were super excited to hear from her again earlier this year and to finally get the chance to update her headshot. We arranged to meet in Fremantle which is close to where she’s based. Plus I can’t refuse an excuse to visit the port city. Unfortunately it was a pretty windy day…come to think of it, when is it not windy in Freo? So, we had to find some more sheltered spots out of the wind. But that didn’t stop us from producing these great shots for her.
Aside from some basic colour/contrast type adjustments these images are straight out of camera. They have not had detailed ‘beauty’ retouching done on them. Lighting was almost entirely natural with only the addition of a reflector to help fill some of the shadows.
Often people looking for acting headshots will accept a kind offer from a friend with a camera, perhaps even one that knows a thing or two about taking photos to take some shots for them. However, a quality headshot requires not just sound knowledge of lighting (natural and/or artificial), but also how to coach for getting the best expressions and personality out of their client. Below is a quick Before/After comparison. The “before” is what is often passed off as a headshot by someone who does not specialise in taking headshots. Sure, it’s a correctly exposed photo of Tessa, and could be used as a headshot. But with just a little bit of coaching and some more intentional use of the ambient light in (essentially) the same location, we were able to produce a shot that is far more likely to stop a casting agent/director than the first shot.
